# Switch Primary/Standby Port

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:blue;">**Note**</mark>

<mark style="color:blue;">This operation is only available in</mark> <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">**Active-Standby**</mark> <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">mode. Active-Active mode has no primary/standby distinction.</mark>
{% endhint %}

Use this operation to proactively redirect traffic — for example, when you need to perform maintenance on the current primary port.

## Procedures

1. Go to the instance details page → **Mode Configuration** section.
2. Hover over the **Change** button on the standby port row and confirm the tooltip: *Switch this port to primary*.
3. Click **Change**, then click **OK** in the confirmation dialog.

After the switch, the standby port becomes the **primary port** and the original primary port becomes the **standby port**.

<mark style="color:blue;">This operation controls</mark> <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">**return (egress) traffic**</mark> <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">only. Inbound traffic must be redirected by the customer via BGP routing policy.</mark>
{% endhint %}
