# Attach a Disk

You can add storage while creating the instance or after creation.

{% hint style="info" %} **Note**

* Up to 1 disk can be attached to enlarge your instance storage.
* Only disks in the same zone of the instance can be attached.
 {% endhint %}

## Procedures

1. Go to **Add Storage** choosing one of the following ways:

 * **Elastic Compute Instance** > **Actions** > **Instance Settings** > **Add Storage**
 * **Instance Details** > **Information** > **Storage** > **Add Storage**
 * **Disk** > **Actions** > **Attach**

2. Select a desired disk and click **Confirm** to attach. If no desired disk, click **New Disk** to create a new disk.\
 See [**Create a Disk**](/welcome/elastic-compute/get-started/manage-storage/create-a-disk.md) for detailed steps.

## What to Do Next

After attaching, the disk is offline by default. Access to your instance and initialize the disk. See [**Initialize a Disk**](/welcome/elastic-compute/get-started/manage-storage/initialize-a-disk.md) for detailed steps.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.console.zenlayer.com/welcome/elastic-compute/get-started/manage-storage/attach-a-disk.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
